Mercy has won the previous three meetings and will try to win its 11th consecutive district championship in the Class A tournament at Southfield High School.

Mercy's 80-48 victory over host Birmingham Marian in girls track and field was largely due to its ability in the hurdles and distance races Tuesday.

The Marlins dominated those events in the Catholic League meet at Brother Rice High School and evened their dual record at 2-2.

Coach Butch Babler believes the Mercy High School soccer team has the potential to be much better offensively in 2011.

“For us this year, the key is I think we're actually going to score goals, which has always been a problem for us,” Babler said, adding the Mercy defense will be solid.
