This award, named after the beloved Garn Griffin, is a tribute to his unwavering support and love for Mercy High School's athletic teams. Garn's dedication and passion for sports have left a lasting impact on our school community, and it is an honor to continue his legacy through this award.
Milena is a remarkable Senior Scholar Athlete who embodies the qualities of athletic excellence, leadership, and team success that Garn himself valued. Over the course of her four years at Mercy High School, this exceptional individual has not only achieved the highest levels of individual success but has also been a key contributor to the success of their team.
I am delighted to share some of the outstanding accomplishments of this year's award recipient. She has broken the school record for high jump an impressive four times, with the current record standing at an impressive 5'11". Their list of accolades includes being named the 2022 indoor and outdoor all-state high jump champion, the 2023 MHSAA individual high jump champion, and the 2024 indoor state champion. Additionally, she clinched the title of Catholic League high jump champion in both 2022 and 2023, as well as being a two-time regional champion in 2022 and 2023.
Furthermore, Milena has achieved national recognition, including being crowned the 2023 Junior Olympic national champion, a two-time AAU All American, a New Balance Nationals All American, and a three-time Nike National All American.
