Class of 2022 College Application Kick Off

Published on 06/04/2021

CLASS OF 2022 COLLEGE APPLICATION KICK-OFF

Dear Class of 2022 Parent/Guardian,

As the school year closes and we look forward to the summer days ahead, we direct our attention to applying to college and some of the preparation that can take place during the summer months. There are a number of layers to this process and the Mercy Counseling Staff serves as a resource to you and your daughter. To begin, we hope to provide your family with the information needed to successfully navigate through the nuances of the application process.

On Wednesday, May 26, Counseling hosted a College Application Zoom presentation meeting with the Class of 2022. The information presented focused on building a college list, ACT/SAT testing, Letters of Recommendation, and what students can do over the summer to prepare for applications in the early fall.

The recorded presentation, titled "Class of 2022 College Kick Off" can be found in the Counseling Class of 2022 course on Schoology. In addition to this resource, we have also hosted several other presentations this spring, including "Navigating the College Search" and "Crafting the College Essay." Housed in the same Schoology folder are other tutorials that speak to various tasks of the application process and working through the Common Application. If your daughter has not already done so, please encourage her to view these presentations.

Looking beyond summer, here is a timeline of what to expect in terms of presentations and meetings hosted by Counseling:

  • August (late) - Student meeting to present the procedures in order to make application requests from Mercy counselors and teachers; as well as provide students the opportunity to ask application specific questions once they begin working on their applications.
  • September (early) - Parent meeting about the application process and how parents can support their daughter through this process.
  • September (early) - Student individual meeting with their Counselor to identify where the student is in the process and to establish a plan to help the student move forward with their applications.
  • September/October - College Reps from various schools will visit Mercy either in-person or via Zoom.
Best wishes to you and your family for a safe and relaxing summer. We look forward to the fall season and the opportunities it brings us to work more closely with your daughter.

Sincerely,

Mercy College Counseling Staff
