With so many good, young hockey players last year, Farmington Hills Mercy had the foundation in place to win another championship in 2016.

The Marlins achieved the repeat and won their third title in four seasons Saturday with a 3-2 victory over Grosse Pointe South at Arctic Edge Ice Arena.

Lucy Devine probably can’t say how many times she watched “The Sound of Music” as a kid, but it was enough to absolutely fall in love with the main character, Maria Rainer.

Now the Mercy High School senior is bring the part made famous by Julie Andrews to life this weekend when the high school drama program presents, “The Sound of Music.”

Farmington Hills Mercy needed something good to happen in the second half Friday to regain the momentum in the Class A district championship game at West Bloomfield.

Senior Zora Pullen was the player who stepped up and did that, leading the Marlins to a 54-48 victory over Harrison in the girls basketball tournament.

WEST BLOOMFIELD – Starting off district play on the host team’s court isn’t easy and Farmington Hills Mercy looked like it might have its hands full with West Bloomfield in Wednesday’s Class A district semifinal.

The Marlins trailed early against the Lakers but eventually got themselves on track with a 15-0 run in the second quarter that carried them to a 58-47 victory.

Farmington Hills Mercy moved into the second round of the Catholic League playoffs Saturday with a 68-32 win over Allen Park Cabrini in girls basketball.

Nine of the 11 players who suited up for the game at Riverview Gabriel Richard scored for the Marlins, who improved their overall record to 13-4.
