Farmington Hills Mercy won its playoff opener in girls lacrosse Thursday with a 16-8 victory over Ann Arbor Skyline in a Division 2 regional game.

Senior Lilly Blake led the host Marlins, who were state semifinalists last year, with five goals and three assists, and senior Caitlin Somerville contributed three goals.

Chandler Pincheck, Grace Canty and Natalie Masopust netted two goals each, and Mercy had one apiece from Catie Coffman and Hannah Roegner. Masopust also had two assists, Pincheck and Canty one.

Goalie Hannah Cohen played a crucial role in the Mercy win, according to coach Lindsay Hoyt.

She added the Marlins had a great defensive effort from Mia Bowen, Erin Gormley, Mary Allor and Amelia Bartels.

Mercy will play Ann Arbor Gabriel Richard in a regional semifinal game at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Farmington High School.

The host Falcons competed well against Livonia Ladywood, a perennial power in the sport, but ended their season Monday with a 17-13 loss.

The Blazers will play Walled Lake Northern at 5 p.m. Wednesday in the other semifinal game. The regional final is scheduled for 5 p.m. Friday.
