Mercy sophomore Mia Flynn broke a 35-year-old school record in the long jump Tuesday when she reached a distance of 16 feet, 111/2 inches.
The previous record was 16-11 by Cathe Bridges in 1981.
It had been seven years since a Mercy record was broken. The last to do it was Abbey Lovat, who broke Kristi Ramsey’s high jump record in 2009.
Flynn made her leap in a dual meet at Grosse Pointe South, which claimed a 110-27 victory.
Mercy’s only other first place was by Arianna Allman, who won the high jump at 5 feet.
Flynn also was second in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.8 seconds.
Mercy’s Indya Hood and Bianca Berger were second in the discus (93-10) and shot put (28-8), respectively.
