Mercy High School will host the third annual educational technology forum “Tech Talk for Educators,” 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 26.
Keynote speaker Jason Siko will kick-off the conference by presenting, “Futures of Educational Technology; Possible, Plausible and Preferable.” Siko is an assistant professor of educational technology at Grand Valley State University. Prior to this appointment, he was a high school biology and chemistry teacher for 13 years, and also worked as a consultant in strategic foresight. His research interests include teaching futures studies in K-12, game design as an instructional strategy, and K-12 online readiness skills.
Approximately 300 teachers and faculty from around 30 metro area school systems will attend specific breakout sessions of their choice featuring presenters from a wide range of schools, universities and technology disciplines.
New this year are six 2-hour hands-on workshops: Creating Videos with Final Cut Pro; 3-D Printing; Podcasting; Periscope; Google Classroom and a Student Expert Teams Experience run by students from Hillel Day School.
“Hillel Day School's eighth graders are thrilled to present at Tech Talk. It's one thing to do something that's innovative, but the ability to share it makes the magnification meaningful to the kids,” said Trevett Allen, Hillel's director of innovation. “These student-makers are intrinsically motivated to affect the lives of others, and participate in other people's education, and society. Tech Talk shows them that they can act in the world, and improve other people's experiences.”
Attendees will benefit from 32 distinct breakout sessions focusing on classroom technology integration topics such as Coding in Primary Grades; Gamification with 3D GameLab; Digital Portfolios; Administrator Apps; Adding iPad to the Math Equation, Freaky, Fast Formative Assessment Tools and more.
