French Students Experience the Detroit Institute of Arts
Madame Campbell’s French 2, French 2 Honors and French for Careers classes enjoyed an interactive docent guided tour with Ms. Leanne Young at the DIA on March 15, 2024. The tour focused on the theme of identity as it is depicted through art from the French Speaking World. Activities included conversations and hands-on activities in which the students were immersed in learning and discovering how personal, national and cultural identity were depicted in various works of French art. The visit also included a visit to the Decorative Arts, which included an interactive cultural lesson on the courses of a French meal. Madame Campbell also led a self-guided tour for her students through the Impressionist galleries which complemented their two week in-depth study in class on the French Impressionist artists. The students created their own virtual museum in the Mercy Media Center with the help of Madame Kreucher who curated the resources for the students and helped them to display their own original works of art.
