2023 REGIONAL SCHOLASTIC ART AWARDS
Congratulations to the 21 students from Mercy’s Art Department who won 30 awards in this year’s Regional Scholastic Art Awards competition. This year, 4,500 works were entered in the Southeast Michigan and Thumb region and 1,100 received an award.
Seven Mercy students won gold keys (first place). Only 5-7% of the work entered received a gold key. Gold key winning pieces will also compete in New York for national awards in March. Gold key winning students are: Elle Borys, Sydnei Brooks, Natalie Hand, Ryley Kline, Jaye McNeil, Finley Siegel, and Victoria Straub. Other winning students include: Layan Ayad, Paige Bashawaty, Addison Etue, Fiona Fountain, Ollie Habel, Stella Johnson, Emmanuella Lumaj, Isabella Merucci, Mya Sampson, Marie Schueneman, Lauren Smith, Kierah Streather, Ryann Toussaint, and Lola Walter.
Winning artworks will be on display at the Center Gallery on the campus of College for Creative Studies from February 13 - March 3, 2023. Public hours are Monday - Friday, 9-5, Saturday and Sunday noon to 5. An awards ceremony will be held on February 14, 2023, at the Detroit Film Theatre located within the Detroit Institute of Arts.
