Latin Student Experience   On March 30, nearly 50 Mercy Latin students attended the eighth annual Copley Latin Day at the University of Michigan. Students attended a college lecture on "Exit East: Roman Exile in Fact and Fiction" from Prof. Netta Berlin and analyzed ancient Roman papyrus in UM's Papyrology Lab, which is the largest papyrus collection in North America.

Later in the afternoon, students attended several workshop sessions, where they: Designed their own emblem books in the tradition of female Latinists from the Netherlands  Studied numismatics and created coins representing ancient Roman political values  Learned about Egyptian magic in the Roman Empire and created an Egyptian amulet out of papyrus Handled ancient Greek and Roman artifacts from Israel Competed in a Latin oratory contest, reciting from Cicero's Ad Familiares speech

At the end of the day, six Mercy graduates visited with the students and shared their experiences as students at UM and how Latin prepared them for success in college. A wonderful day was had by all. Go Blue!
