Regional Scholastic Art Awards 2018
 
Congratulations to the 14 students from Mercy’s Art Department who won 34 awards in this year’s Regional Scholastic Art Awards competition.  
 
Special congratulations to seniors Mayssa Fakih and Olivia Gibaratz. Their portfolios made finalist status and will compete in New York City for talent scholarships. Several Mercy students also won gold keys (first place) and their pieces will compete in New York for national awards in March. These students are: Olivia Gibaratz (one gold key in painting), Seung Yeon Lee (one gold key in drawing), Madeline Patterson (one gold key in photography), Sojourner Posch (two gold keys in photography), Angela Rea (one gold key in drawing), and Clarisa Russenberger (four gold keys in photography).
 
The College for Creative Studies sponsors the Southeastern Michigan Art Region, which, this year, received more than 6,400 individual entries and 263 senior portfolios from students in Lenawee, Livingston, Monroe, Oakland, Washtenaw and Wayne Counties. Jurors selected 1103 individual category works to receive gold key, silver key, and honorable mention awards. 101 gold key portfolios were selected from 263 submitted.
 
Regional winning entries will be on display in the exhibit at the College for Creative Studies, Walter B. Ford II Building from Monday, February 5th – Friday, March 2nd. Hours: 9:00 am – 5:00 pm Monday – Friday, noon – 5:00 pm Saturday and Sunday. The regional ceremony for Oakland County Private schools will be held on Tuesday, February 6, 2018, at 7:00 p.m. in the Detroit Film Theater of the Detroit Institute of Arts.

Special congratulations to Bianca Seely and Katelynn Smith. They won gold keys (first place) in the individual photography (Bianca) and ceramics (Katelynn) contests. Their pieces will compete in New York for national awards in March.
 
The College for Creative Studies sponsors the Southeastern Michigan Art Region, which, this year, received nearly 6000 individual entries from students in Lenawee, Livingston, Monroe, Oakland, Washtenaw and Wayne Counties. Jurors selected 1100 individual category works to receive gold key, silver key, and honorable mention awards.

National Scholastic Art Awards 2016

We are pleased to announce that Mercy High School seniors Miranda Stano, Jinghan Hu and their teacher, Ms. Susan Smith, have earned national recognition in the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards of 2016. Miranda won a gold medal and an American Visions Medal for her drawing titled “Grandmother”. Jinghan won a silver medal for her drawing titled “My Grandmother” and a silver medal for her portfolio titled “People In My Eyes”. These students have been identified by panels of creative professionals as the most talented young artists in the nation. This year, nearly 320,000 works of art and writing were submitted. Only the top 1% were recognized at the national level. Miranda and Ms.Smith been invited to attend a ceremony at the world-famous Carnegie Hall on Thursday, June 2.

The Art.Write.Now.2016 National Exhibition will be open at the Sheila C. Design Center at Parsons The New School for Design (66 5th Avenue at 13th Street) and at the Pratt Manhattan Gallery (144 West 14th Street, 2nd Floor) from 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM. National Medalist art and writing will be on display June 2–12. Come see the best work created by teens across the country!

Winning artworks will be displayed in a special exhibition at the Festival of the Arts (April 14th – 16th) and will remain at the City Gallery through May 13th. Awards will be presented on Friday, April 15th, at the Costick Center, beginning at 6:00 PM. Winners (or a representative) are required to be present to receive awards. Their families, friends, teachers and administrators are invited to attend the award ceremony. Ticket are $10 each. Awardees will be given one complimentary ticket. Additional tickets may be purchased at the Costick Center or online here.


Congressional Art Competition

Congratulations to sophomore, Joelle Joyner, who won a 1st place prize in the congressional art competition for a color pencil drawing she completed in Ms. Susan Smith’s Drawing 1 class. Her winning piece will be hung in the United States Capitol Building until next summer. She will be one of fourteen students to visit the capitol for the exhibit.


Regional Scholastic Art Awards 2016
 
Congratulations to the 12 students from Mercy's Art Department who won 39 awards in this year's Regional Scholastic Art Awards competition.
 
Special congratulations to Jinghan (Molane) Hu, Miranda Stano, and Erin Tisdel. Their portfolios made finalist status and will compete in New York City for talent scholarships. These three seniors also won thirteen gold keys (first place) in the individual photography, drawing, painting, and mixed media contests. Their pieces will also compete in New York for national awards.
 
Most excitingly, Jinghan Hu and Miranda Stano won two of the five elusive American Vision award nominations. The American Vision Award winners are chosen as the "Best of Show" from all of the artwork entered in this year's Southeastern Michigan Regional competition. Each regional program across the country selects the five most outstanding works of art from their gold key recipients. These five young artists represent the region on the national level as American Vision nominees. In spring, a national panel will select one of the nominated works from each region as the American Vision Award Recipient for 2016.
 
Jinghan's portfolio is also one of seven "best of show" portfolios that will be displayed as a whole at this year's exhibit at the College for Creative Studies.

Jurors selected 1093 individual category works to receive gold key, silver key, and honorable mention awards. 90 gold key portfolios were selected from 300 submitted, seven were selected "Best of Show" and five Gold Key works were selected as American Vision Nominees. All Gold Key work will be judged at the national level in March.
