Making a Difference 365 - Community Connections Fair

We are excited to share our redesigned Make A Difference Day event at Mercy. Making a Difference 365 will kick off during Spirit week on October 2nd at Mercy High School. This year, we will be introducing the Community Connections Fair, a new approach to student service engagement that will replace our previous program, where students would travel via bus to a variety of organizations for a volunteer project.

Over time, our previous service day had placed a growing burden on our community partners, as they worked to accommodate large groups of students in a single day. After thoughtful consideration and collaboration with these partners, and surveying our students, we are thrilled to offer a new format that will allow students to make meaningful connections while continuing to serve the greater good throughout the year.

The Community Connections Fair will bring dozens of non-profit organizations from across Metro Detroit to our school campus. This format is similar to a college fair, where students will visit tables, engage directly with representatives, and learn about each organization’s mission and volunteer opportunities. This new approach will deepen students' understanding of community needs and foster long-term service relationships.

Additionally, while students wait for their turn to explore the fair, they will be involved in two impactful service projects right here at school:

  • Fleece and Thank You: Students will make cheerful fleece blankets to be donated to children in local hospitals who are undergoing treatment. These blankets will provide warmth and comfort during challenging times.
  • Global Health Charities: Students will prepare supplies for Clean Birth Kits, which contain essential items for safe and sanitary childbirth. These kits will be assembled at a Global Health Charities event and sent to underserved areas around the world, improving maternal and newborn health outcomes.

We are confident that the Community Connections Fair will provide a meaningful and enriching experience for our students, while also better supporting our community partners. By bringing these organizations to campus, students will have greater opportunities to connect with causes they are passionate about and find ways to make a lasting impact, truly creating a community that is Making a Difference 365.

Please note students will be required to sign-up to receive information from two organizations and classes will be held with a modified schedule found here. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out.

We look forward to this exciting new chapter in Mercy’s commitment to service and are eager to see how our students will grow through these connections. Thank you for your continued support of our mission to nurture compassionate, service-minded leaders!
