Class of 2018 Parents / Guardians:
As the year comes to end and we see the start of a variety of festivities designed to celebrate your daughters and her accomplishments here at Mercy, we want to remind you about several upcoming events.
Honors/Moving Up - Students will wear their caps and gowns for both of these events. If your daughter is not present for the honors assembly, she WILL NOT be allowed to participate in Moving up. Parents are welcome to attend either event. Click here for schedule.
Graduation Practice: Tuesday, May 29 at 10:00am to 12:00pm at the Detroit Opera House - Attendance is Mandatory!
If students are not present, they will not be allowed to walk at graduation. Students must be there by 9:45am and breakfast will be served between 9:30am-9:50am. It will be a light breakfast and practice will start promptly at 10am. Your daughters will park at the Detroit Opera House Parking center at 1426 Broadway Street. Mercy will be paying for the parking, but they will need to take a ticket when they enter the garage.
We are asking the students to dress appropriately for practice and to bring the shoes they will wear for graduation so they can practice walking across the stage. Also, please do not make appointments for your daughters on the same day until 1:00pm or later. We may run over the scheduled time and need everyone to stay until the practice is completed.
Baccalaureate Mass & Senior Farewell: Tuesday, May 29 at 6:00pm
Baccalaureate Mass is a final celebration of the Class of 2018 and students will again wear their caps and gowns for the event. Students must arrive by 5:30pm to line up. Parents and family members are welcome to attend.
Following Mass, there will be a procession to the courtyard to lay a rose at the statue of Mary. This procession is a long-standing tradition in Mercy history and occurred at the original location of the school. It is a very solemn and beautiful tradition. There will be speeches from the class officers, Sr. Emily George Award winner, and Heart of Mercy recipient. Appetizers and refreshments will be offered in the gym.
Graduation: Sunday, June 3 at 2pm at the Detroit Opera House
Students must be at the venue by 1pm and will enter through the stage/security doors off of Madison. Doors on either side of the Detroit Opera House will be open at 1:30pm for family and guests to enter the building and seating will be on a first come, first serve basis. The graduates will still enter the same stage doors are previous years.
Click here for link to the graduation seating chart. This information will be shared with your daughter at graduation practice. Please review which side of the building your daughter will be sitting on or exiting to in order to plan your meeting location following the ceremony or your seating choice. Hopefully, this will assist on the day of graduation to alleviate any confusion and allow the event to be as dignified as possible.
Due to the lack of security backstage, where the students will be prior to the ceremony, we are asking students to leave their cell phones, purses, etc... with a family member. In addition, by doing so, they will be preserving the sanctity and dignity of the event. Please help us with this request.
SENIOR ALL NIGHT PARTY (SANP)
The Senior All Night Party Committee has some last minute details and some special requests for volunteers, food and coolers. Click here for SANP Sign-Up genius to help out. Mercy Lobby doors will open for check-in at 10:15pm. Students will board buses and leave Mercy at 10:45pm for Joe Dumars Fieldhouse. The ending time is 6:30am.
Lawn Signs & Balloons
Get your congratulatory Mercy grad lawn sign for $10 available on 5/24 at Moving Up and 5/29 at Baccalaureate Mass. Mercy Grad maroon and gold balloons are available for purchase from the Marlin Shop or Ms. Scalzi in the Athletic Office. Cost is $3 per balloon or 4 for $10.
Thank you for all you do for your daughters and we appreciate your assistance during these end of the year celebrations and look forward to celebrating with you. As a reminder, please review the expectations found in the end of year promise.
