COME FLY WITH US!

Dear Mercy Alumnae,

Mercy High School's Performing Arts Department cordially invites you to the spring musical Mary Poppins. In this musical stage version of this classic story, Bert introduces the audience to 1910 London and the Banks family living at 17 Cherry Tree Lane. Jane and Michael Banks cannot keep a nanny until Mary Poppins flies in on the wind. Using magic and common sense, she teaches the family how to value each other again. Mary Poppins takes the children on magical adventures, but Jane and Michael aren't the only ones she affects. Even grownups learn a lesson from this "practically perfect" nanny who advises that "anything can happen if you let it." The show boasts such musical numbers as A Spoonful of Sugar, Feed the Birds, Let's Go Fly a Kite, Step in Time and the show-stopping Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious.

We have pulled out all the stops to present this beloved Disney musical. The cast of 58 includes young men from Catholic Central High School, North Farmington High School, Novi High School, U of D Jesuit High School and one young boy from Brookfield Academy. Also, the nationally-acclaimed Flying by Foy company that flew Mary Poppins on Broadway has been hired to rig the stage and then give our crew flight instruction, starting February 19. By February 22, we will be flying solo. We will fly Mary Poppins, Bert and Miss Andrew and want you to soar to new heights with us. The enormous set pieces, built by 17 students, are both time appropriate and beautiful. The musical numbers, both song and dance, are over the top with the most-talented cast assembled and we don't want anyone to miss this spectacular show. You will not see the likes of it again on the Mercy stage. We invite all alums back to see this beloved story in hopes that you will leave with a renewed sense of family and know that "anything can happen if you let it." It is truly a family celebration that will lift everyone's spirits.

Tickets: The show is set for Friday and Saturday, March 9 and 10 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, March 11 at 2:00 p.m. Tickets are $17.00 for adults and $15.00 for students and children and may be purchased at the Reception Area, or by calling the Drama Office at 248-893-3572, or may be purchased at the Box Office the evening of the performance. We promise you an unforgettable night.

So 'come home to Mercy' once again and relive your high school years. Whether you were in the cast, worked behind the scenes, or supported us by attending the shows, we'd love to have you join us and "take a seat" in our beloved auditorium.

As always, we (technical director Ms. Anne Sill MacDougall '98, assistant technical director Mr. Ron Sill and I) will be at the back of the auditorium to greet old friends. Hope to see you there. If you cannot attend (but we truly hope you can) and just want to drop a line, please contact me at kesill@mhsmi.org

Sincerely,

Mrs. Kathy Sill
Director of Mary Poppins
