Dear Mercy Parents,
I’m a student leader of the school’s robotics team, and I’d like to inform you about an opportunity for students who might be interested in robotics.
Mercy’s robotics team, The Riveters, will be hosting our annual event “Robots and Chocolate” on Wednesday, September 13 from 6:30-9:00 pm at Mercy. Our shop is located at Mercy next to room E-3 in the basement.
Our goal is to promote interest in robotics by giving Mercy girls a chance to see what we do and how our team works. If your daughter is interested in joining the team, this is the best way to try it out. We’ll be talking about how our season works, doing demos for each of our sub-teams like mechanical, electrical, and business, and there will be activities for new students as well.
We welcome students from all grades with all experience levels. When I joined as a freshman, I knew nothing about coding or robots, and now I want to be an engineer. Besides just technical skills, the team needs business skills as well, and our business sub-team is a great way to gain practical experience in that field.
Our team is mentored by professional engineers, and students get a unique hands-on experience that we all love. Mercy’s robotics team helps students be exposed to STEM careers and build real-world skills while having fun. In the past two years, we achieved great success by competing at the State and World Championship events.
If your daughter is interested in joining the team, we’d love to have her visit us at “Chocolate and Robots.” Parents are welcome to stay and learn about the team as well.
If you have any additional questions you can contact me at warnera@mhsmi.org,
or our lead mentor, Mark Hansen, at mdhansen4@gmail.com, or our parent coordinator, Bryan Gluth, at bryan.gluth@gmail.com, 248-895-5836.
We hope to see you there!
