Revised iPad Policy

Published on 11/13/2015

Mercy is beginning the fourth year of our iPad program and life is good:
  • We have just been renewed through 2017 as an Apple Distinguished School.

  • The iPads have become robustly integrated into instruction.

  • The original iPads are holding up well for our class of 2016.
However, the iPad itself has evolved. Now there are several models and choices within those models. Some families wish to outfit their daughters for college with an iPad that is more "loaded" than the Mercy model.

Also, it is has become more common for students to enroll at Mercy with a brand new iPad already in their possession. To be reasonable, we are modestly modifying the policy of a "Mercy iPad Air 2" being the only acceptable device for use at school, though of course we will continue to sell it at a discount to families.

Incoming students, and current students who need to replace their original iPad, will no longer be required to purchase an iPad from the school, but not any iPad will do.

A student may use an iPad purchased outside of school as long as it meets the following minimum requirements (no exceptions):

Acceptable iPad models and minimum storage capacity
  • iPad Pro-128 GB

  • iPad Air 2-64 GB

  • iPad Mini 4-64 GB
Of course, current students who have previously bought iPads from Mercy that do not meet the new requirements can continue to use these iPads at school.
Please also be aware that school policy has not changed regarding the items listed below:
  • Students are required to have a working iPad at all times as a condition of enrollment.
  • All iPads are required to be registered to the school's Mobile Device Management (MDM) server in order to access the school wifi network.
  • Any other device besides an iPad that meets school requirements is not allowed.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding the new policy, please feel free to contact us at tfjames@mhsmi.org or 248-893-3590 or stop by the I.T. Office.
