Dear Mercy Parents,
After much thought and many prayers I have decided to retire at the end of the semester. I joined the Mercy family back in September 1976. In 1979, I enrolled my oldest daughter, Ann-Margret '83; then came Jennifer '85; and finally Stephanie '89. I taught all of them the Relationships class for which I am known. Along with my daughters, I also have had the opportunity to teach my oldest granddaughter, Samantha Ewald Wenson '11 and her sister Josephine Wenson '17. There are three more Ewald granddaughters presently attending Mercy with two more coming in a year and a half. Mercy runs in our DNA.
Every day has been a joy and privilege to come to my home away from home to teach the young women of Mercy, and to work with such a dedicated, intelligent, creative staff. Teaching the Relationships class for the past 40 years has been my mission, my ministry and my passion. Leaving Mercy is not easy, but it is time.
Thank you Sisters of Mercy for Mercy High School. Thank you Mercy students, past and present. Thank you Mercy parents for your wonderful daughters and for all your support. Thank you Mercy staff, past and present, for your mentoring, your help and understanding over the years, and for your friendship. You have made my 40 years so fulfilling. You are the best. God bless each of you.

Principal Carolyn Witte remarks, "The imprint that Mrs. Ewald has made on Mercy is indelible. Her many years here give meaning to the phrase "a labor of love." The school community, including hundreds upon hundreds of former students, has been enriched by her teaching and her commitment to the education of young women. We wish you many blessings in the years ahead."
