BYRON CENTER — No. 2-ranked Farmington Hills Mercy went 3-0 at the Blue Chip Michigan Tournament on Saturday, beating Grandville, 6-1, Kalamazoo Christian, 5-0, and No. 3-ranked Caledonia, 6-1.
Andrea Elmore had the big blow against Grandville, driving in two runs in a three-run first inning, in support of Abby Krzywiecki, who struck out nine in a one-hitter.
The Marlins had seven of their 10 hits in the fourth inning, when they sent 10 batters to the plate, highlighted by Kryzwiecki’s leadoff home run, her Mercy record 14th of the season. Elmore tossed a two-hit shutout, striking out seven.
Sophia Van Acker had three hits and scored twice in the win over Caledonia, while Krzywiecki knocked in two runs. Elmore got the win in the circle, with two innings of relief help from Krzywiecki.
The Marlins (26-1) will face Pontiac Notre Dame Prep for the Catholic League A-B championship at University of Detroit Mercy on Monday.
