Farmington Hills Mercy swept its four-game season series with Birmingham Marian in softball Tuesday, but the last of the victories was not easily achieved.
After winning the first game in five innings, 13-2, the teams went back and forth in the second until the visiting Marlins eked out a 10-9 win.
Abby Krzywiecki was the winning pitcher in relief, holding the Mustangs to five hits, no walks and two earned runs over the final four innings.
The Mustangs capitalized on three errors and got to starting pitcher Andrea Elmore for seven runs (four earned), six hits and one walk.
Mercy scored three runs in the sixth to break a 7-7 tie. Marian added two in the seventh with a two-run homer by Sera Stevens.
Following the no-outs blast by Stevens, Krzywiecki retired the side with a strikeout, groundout and strikeout.
Cari Padula was 3-for-3 with two home runs and four RBIs for the Marlins. She also scored four runs.
Nicole Belans and Anna Dixon had three hits and one RBI apiece. Dixon hit two doubles and scored twice.
Sophia VanAcker, Megan Satawa and Sarah Cassidy were 2-for-4. Satawa drove in two runs and VanAcker one. Krzywiecki hit a solo homer.
Marian’s Sydney Jascoe went 4-for-4 with a pair of two-run homers and two doubles. She scored three runs.
Ary Daddabo and Erin Neaton were 2-for-4, and Julia Riker drove in two runs with a single. Kelli Conway was the Marian pitcher.
In the first game, Krzywiecki was 3-for-4 and collected seven RBIs. She hit a three-run homer and a two-run double. She drove in single runs with another double and a groundout.
Dixon was 3-for-3 with a two-run single. Padula was 2-for-4 with an RBI and Satawa 2-for-3. Mary Reeber scored three runs and had one RBI.
Elmore, who also drove in a run, pitched a three-hitter in which she struck out six and had no walks.
Stevens was 2-for-2 with a home run, a double and one RBI. She scored both runs. Kristen DiMambro pitched for the Mustangs.
Mercy, which had 31 hits in the doubleheader, was 8-0 in the Catholic League Central Division and 15-1 overall going into a Friday twinbill with Livonia Ladywood.
