Good Luck, Mrs. Sandy Mals

Over the past 12 years, Mrs. Mals has become a deeply cherished part of our Mercy community as a teacher, former Religious Education Department Chair, mentor, HRC moderator, Heart of Mercy recipient and trusted presence for so many students.
One student beautifully shared, “Mrs. Mals brightens up our day and just makes Mercy a warmer place.” Another reflected, “She just makes everyone feel loved. It feels like home walking into her classroom.” Those words speak to the extraordinary gift Mrs. Mals has given Mercy - creating spaces where students feel welcomed, valued, supported, and deeply cared for in a prayerful environment.
Mrs. Mals understands that a Mercy education is about far more than academics alone. Through her faith, compassion, kindness, and authentic care for others, she models what it means to truly live our Mercy values each day. Beyond the classroom, Mrs. Mals extends that mission even further through her work as the author of The Good Eggs children’s book series - a virtue-based collection that helps young people understand compassion, service, kindness, empathy, and the importance of caring for others. What began as a heartfelt educational initiative has continued to grow in remarkable ways, expanding to broader audiences through media and video platforms, including features connected with PBS and Amazon.
We hesitate to say that Mrs. Mals is retiring. While she may be stepping away from her daily role at Mercy, her work of inspiring and forming young people will certainly continue. In many ways, she is simply beginning a new chapter - one that allows her gifts, creativity, and message of kindness and love to reach even more children and families far beyond the walls of Mercy High School.
Mrs. Mals, thank you for the countless ways you have shared your gifts with Mercy. Your warmth, joy, and care for others have left a lasting impact on this community, and your presence will be greatly missed.
