Class of 2026 Salutatorian
Chandravadana Koneru ’26 - Wayne State University Med Direct 8-Year Program

It is an honor to recognize Chandra Koneru as a member of Mercy’s 2026 Salutatorian class. Chandu has achieved the remarkable academic distinction of completing nine Advanced Placement courses, in addition to a rigorous honors curriculum, while maintaining an exceptional 3.99 GPA. Yet for Chandu, the goal was never simply to build an impressive transcript. Rather, she continually sought opportunities to learn deeply, think critically, solve complex problems, and challenge herself beyond what was required. In every sense, Chandu embodies Mercy’s Core Value of Educational Courage - approaching learning not as a task to complete, but as an opportunity to better understand the world, explore new possibilities, and thoughtfully solve problems.
Her impact at Mercy extends far beyond the classroom. From her generous spirit to her tireless dedication and leadership, Chandu’s contributions to the Mercy community have been extraordinary. She makes others feel welcome through her warm and empathetic approach. As Mercy Riveters Team Captain and Drive Coach, she helped lead with both excellence and collaboration. Always courageously trying new paths, Chandu was honored as the first-ever recipient of the 2025 BGRC College Scholarship at the Bloomfield Hills Girls Robotics Competition - becoming the first ever recipient to receive this distinction. She was also the first student from Michigan to earn a Gold award at 2025 HOSA International. A classmate stated that “Chandu does so much inside and outside of the school. Even when she’s not in a formal leadership position, she always calmly and impressively carries herself as one.”
In addition to her academic and leadership accomplishments, Chandu has received several impressive national awards recognizing her exceptional commitment to volunteer service and the meaningful impact she has made far beyond her immediate community. Through her intellect, humility, leadership, and heart for service, Chandu reflects the very best of what it means to be a Mercy woman, Chandu was also selected as a Presidential Scholar finalist - one of only ten students in the nation chosen for the highly competitive eight-year direct-admit medical program at Wayne State University. Through this remarkable accomplishment, she will pursue studies in neuroscience with a minor in public health before directly continuing into her Doctor of Medicine program. For Chandu, medicine is far more than a profession; it is work of the heart - an opportunity to combine her passion for serving others.
We congratulate Chandu on being a Mercy Salutatorian and we wish her the best as she continues to make a difference wherever her community might be.
