Mock Trial Team won the Michigan Center for Civic Education (MCCE) Wayne County Regional Tournament, earning an undefeated record and advancing to the State Championship in Lansing on March 20–21, 2026.
The regional competition featured three intense trials, and Mercy's team prevailed in all three, showcasing exceptional preparation, poise, and legal acumen in the 2025-2026 MCCE Mock Trial case: East Superior Residential HOA v. Apex Structural Engineering, Inc., and Metro Builders, LLC.
Outstanding individual performances highlighted the team's strength:
- Defense Team (competed in two trials): Stella Coe '26 earned the Outstanding Attorney Award both times, and Gabby Owens '26 received the Outstanding Witness Award in both rounds.
- Plaintiff's Team: Earned the team's highest overall scores, with Peyton Robinson '26 awarded Outstanding Attorney and Ella Cole '28 taking Outstanding Witness.
These awards reflect the team's dedication to professionalism, civility, and mastery of trial procedures, evidence rules, and persuasive advocacy—core values emphasized by MCCE and the Michigan Supreme Court's Principles of Professionalism and Civility.
Coaches Martha Kreucher, J.D., Ms. Morgan Schut, J.D., were assisted by Mercy alumnae Bella Jappaya and Kayla Kilano, whose guidance and expertise helped elevate the team's performance.
The State Tournament, held in Lansing, brings together the top 12 advancing teams from regions across Michigan for preliminary rounds and a championship final. The state winner will represent Michigan at the National High School Mock Trial Championship in Des Moines, Iowa, May 7–9, 2026.
