Farmington Hills Mercy swept Catholic High School League foe Ann Arbor Father Gabriel Richard/Greenhills 14-2 (5 innings) and 16-1 (3 innings) in softball doubleheader on Monday, April 19, at Mercy.
Mercy improved to 4-0 with the wins. Gabriel Richard/Greenhills fell to 0-4.
In game one, freshman Asia Barbato earned the win, striking out 14 and allowing three hits in five innings. Northwestern-bound senior Grace Nieto had a double and two singles at the plate and scored four runs. Miami of Ohio-bound senior Maggie Murphy had a single and a double and drove in three runs. Sophomore Gage Lambert had a single and a double, drove in three runs, and scored twice. Junior Kendall Spivey had
two hits and drove in two runs.
In game two, freshman Sophia Paluk got the three-inning win, striking out eight batters and allowing no earned runs. Sophomore Sabrina Shea had two hits and drove in four runs. Murphy had a single and double and scored three runs. Freshman Kat Burras had a single, double, three RBI, and scored two runs. Nieto had three hits and scored two runs.
Mercy opened the season with a sweep of Monroe St. Mary Catholic Central on April 17, 11-3 and 15-1 (five innings). They were the first games the Marlins had played since June 1, 2019.
Mercy hosts defending (2019) Michigan High School Athletic Association Division 1 champion Warren Regina for a doubleheader on Thursday, April 22.
