National High School Coach of the Year Awards
LEXINGTON, KY. (November 30, 2020) - The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) is proud to announce that Loretta Vogel, Head Volleyball Coach at Mercy High School in Farmington Hills, Mich., and Renee Saunders, Head Volleyball Coach at Skutt Catholic High School in Omaha, Neb., have been selected as the 2020 USMC/AVCA National High School Co-Coaches of the Year.
The AVCA will honor Saunders and Vogel during the AVCA Virtual Convention, taking place Dec. 16-19. Additionally, as a result of winning USMC/AVCA National Coach of the Year honors, Saunders and Vogel have been invited to coach the two teams that make up the Under Armour All-America match. This year, the match has been cancelled due to COVID-19 concerns. However, both coaches have been invited to co-coach next year's Under Armour All-America Match in conjunction with the 2021-22 National Coaches of the Year.
Loretta Vogel, Mercy High School
• Took over at Mercy High School in 2009
• Has over 1,200 career wins
• Was inducted into the MIVCA Hall of Fame in 2014
• 2019 MHSAA Division 1 State Champions
• Has appeared in the MHSAA Final Four nine times (1979, 1994, 1996, 2005, 2009, 2010, 2017, 2018, 2019)
• Has coached three Gatorade State Player of Year winners (2011, 2018, 2019)
• Mentored 2019 Gatorade National Player of the Year Jess Mruzik
• Has coached two Under Armour First Team All-Americans (Jess Mruzik and Julia Bishop)
