One Love Foundation Certifies Mercy as Champion School
Accreditation Awarded for Work Promoting Healthy Relationships
The One Love Foundation certified Mercy High School as a Champion School for the 2020-2021 academic year, in recognition of our commitment to relationship health education through a combination of educated, student leadership, and ongoing awareness-building activities.
The Champion School Certification is an accreditation awarded to schools throughout the country who promote a culture of healthy relationships. “One Love is on a mission to educate all young people about healthy and unhealthy relationships, empower them to identify and avoid abuse and learn how to love better,” said Chief Program Officer Megan Shackleton. “During these challenging times, we are especially grateful to Mercy for continuing to invest in relationship health education.”
One Love is a non-profit organization and national leader providing relationship health education to students across the country. Through compelling workshops and peer-to-peer discussions, One Love resources help to open young people’s eyes to healthy versus unhealthy behaviors and offer a framework everyone can use to discuss these behaviors.
Mercy HS participated in One Love’s educational workshops, reaching students with critical information about how to identify the warning signs of abuse, how to help a friend in an unhealthy situation, and how to practice healthy relationship behaviors.
Students also participated in an information tabling event and hosted a basketball game dedicated to domestic violence. One Love resources were incorporated into the health and contemporary issues curriculum. “We continue to work toward maintaining this certification as well as striving to gain the Hero School recognition. By adding a One Love club this year and designating leaders as One Love ambassadors, we are one step closer to this goal,” Cindy Richter, Social Studies Teacher & Student Activities Coordinator. ABOUT ONE LOVE
The One Love Foundation is dedicated to improving the relationship health of future generations. The non-profit organization has educated more than 1.15 million young people through educational workshops, both in-person and online, by teaching them the signs of unhealthy and healthy relationship behaviors. One Love was founded in honor of Yeardley Love, a 22-year old college student whose life was tragically cut short when she was killed by her ex-boyfriend. Her family learned during the trial that her death could have been prevented had they recognized the signs of an abusive relationship. For more information, visit joinonelove.org.
