Coach Vicky Kowalski MHSCA Hall of Fame

The Michigan High School Coaches’ Association (MHSCA) has selected Victoria Kowalski from Mercy High School for induction into the Hall of Fame. The induction ceremony will take place in the Terrace Room of the Bovee University Center on the campus of Central Michigan University at 1:00pm on Sunday, September 15, 2024.

The MHSCA is a 70-year old association with nearly 12,000 members representing 18 sport related associations was founded on the campus of Central Michigan University in 1954. The Hall of Fame is located in the hallway of the old Rose Arena entrance.

Victoria Kowalski has accrued sixty-seven seasons of coaching student athletes over forty-four years. Vicky was the varsity girls golf coach at Mercy High School in Farmington Hills from 1980-2023, and the varsity girls bowling coach at Mercy High School from 2003-2024. Her teams have been highly successful under her leadership. The Mercy High School varsity girls golf teams have earned eighteen Catholic League Golf Championships, ten MHSAA Regional Titles, three MHSAA State Runners Up Finishes, four MHSAA State Championships, and had a win/loss record of 360/60. The varsity girls golf team also produced twenty All-State Individual Medalists, eighteen All-State Individuals (coaches selections), one All-State Champion; Erin Borowiec, who was also selected as Miss Golf. The Mercy High School varsity girls bowling team earned ten Catholic League Golf Championships, one MHSAA Regional Title, and had a win/loss record of 190/20. The varsity girls bowling team produced one All State Individual (coaches selection), one Individual State Runners Up; Cathleen Kowalski, who was also selected for the girls bowling
Dream Team.

Coach K, as she is affectionately known, has made “an indelible impact on the school’s athletic program and the lives of countless students,” and has been recognized by her peers and community for her service and commitment. She was named Girls Golf Coach of the Year four times, the Catholic High School League Coach of the Year eighteen times, the Michigan Interscholastic Golf Coaches Association (MIGCA) Regional Coach of the Year six times, the MIGCA State Coach of the Year two times, and the National Girls Golf Coach of the year two times. Coach K was inducted into the Catholic High School Hall of Fame in 2007, the MIGCA Hall of Fame in 2009, the Michigan High School Interscholastic Bowling Coaches Hall of Fame in 2021, and the Mercy High School Athletic Hall of Fame in 2022.

Over the years Vicky has taken on many leadership roles and generously volunteered to further the growth and success of her athletes, sports and community. She has served as the coordinator of the Catholic League Bowling Committee fifteen times, the Catholic Golf League thirty times, the MHSAA Golf Committee six times, the MHSAA Bowling Committee eight times, was the director of the Golf Regional Meet six times, and was the director of the Bowling Regional ten times. She has also volunteered her time to organize and oversee multiple Catholic High School League bowling and golf tournaments.
