CLASS OF 2027 PERSONALIZED PARKING SPOTS
We are excited to share that the tradition of Senior Painted Parking Spots will return this school year for the Class of 2027!
The Mercy Administration and Campus Facilities Team worked in partnership with community members to identify a responsible approach that balances this beloved tradition with the long-term care of our campus and neighboring properties.
Funds raised through the Senior Painted Parking Spots will support Prom and other Senior Class activities throughout the year, with the majority helping offset the cost of Prom tickets.
The parking spot painting process, design guidelines, important dates, and additional details are provided and linked below.
Thank you in advance for your support in following these guidelines. Together, we can help preserve this special Mercy tradition.
With Gratitude,
Mercy Administration
Campus Facilities Team
PAINTED PARKING SPOTS INFORMATION & GUIDELINES
Selecting a Parking Spot
You will find a campus parking lot view here and map of available numbered parking spots here. Please review to determine your ideal spot. As you make your decision about which spot you would like, think about what is more important to you - location or the texture/potential longevity of the spot for painting. The spots on the 11 Mile Rd./Flagpole Entrance will be a smoother canvas for painting. The spots on the Middlebelt Rd./Lobby Entrance will have a rougher canvas for painting which could result in lower sustainability for your design. The spots offered for senior painting are marked in gold. Additionally, we are offering spots on the Middlebelt Rd./Lobby Entrance side that can be selected and reserved, yet the surface is extremely rough and not suitable for painting. These unpainted reserved spots are colored maroon.
In previous years, students have expressed that they wish they knew where light poles were located. We’ve added spots affected by light poles at the bottom of the key area.
Parking Spot Designs
You will find the design template and spot selection form here. Please draw the design that you would like to paint on your spot. No profanity, inappropriate images/drawings or references to something that does not represent the Mercy charisms. It's on school property, it must be school appropriate. Be mindful of copyright.
The spot you receive is designated on a first come first serve basis on approved designs submitted using template form via email to seniormoderator@mhsmi.org. On the bottom of the form, please list your first, second, and third spot choices as well as mention anything else that will help us assign your space. We will do our best to make sure everyone has one of their preferred spot selections.
You are welcome to create a partner design with the person in the spot next to you. Note that you cannot paint over the yellow parking lines. We cannot guarantee adjacent parking spots for students planning a shared design. However, we will make every effort to accommodate requests if both designs are submitted together. Please have a backup plan in case adjacent spots are not available.
Designs must be sent to seniormoderator@mhsmi.org by Thursday, August 6. You will not be assigned a parking spot until your design has been approved. You will receive confirmation of your design approval, however, you will not receive your specific spot number until you check-in on base coating paint day Saturday, August 8.
Cost $85
This cost covers the parking spot, paint rollers for the base coat and professional covering of the spot at the end of the school year. You will not have to paint over your spot in May. Please have a check made out to Mercy High School, cash ready for the first day of painting, or you can pay online here. Please note the Senior Painted Parking Spot is non-refundable. Mercy High School is not responsible for the longevity, appearance, or condition of the painted design, including fading, chipping, or other deterioration resulting from weather, environmental conditions, or other factors.
Painting Days
Base coat and the beginning of your designs start on Saturday, August 8 from 1pm - 3pm. This process takes about one hour. Please plan accordingly and bring brooms, blowers, etc..., to help clean off your spots. Payment is due to the moderators and you must sign the waiver here before you start painting.
Designs will be allowed to be painted for a one-week period at your convenience (August 8 - August 16). There will be a forthcoming Sign-up Genius sent for you to schedule painting. You may sign-up on the day you paint. We simply ask that you use the Sign-up Genius so we know who is on campus for safety purposes.
Any changes to the designs after approval via email notification must be approved. If anything is painted that is not approved, you will be responsible for paying the cost to cover up your design and the initial cost to paint will not be refunded.
