FEED PEOPLE, NOT LANDFILLS
Student Led Community Outreach
The student run community outreach project Feed People, Not Landfills is offering a Simple Meal Day in the Mercy cafeteria on Tuesday, December 3. A meal of soup and bread will be served for $6, with a portion of proceeds going towards Make Food, Not Waste, a local non-profit that saves food from heading to the trash and makes healthy, nourishing meals for Detroiters in need. Simple Meal Day provides Mercy students an important opportunity to reflect on the options that are usually available to us within the cafeteria, and also the food waste we generate in our everyday decisions. Check out the video here to learn more.
In the spirit of giving, there will also be a cash donation box, as well as a way to donate money via student ID when it is scanned after making a cafe purchase. Students and staff are encouraged to contribute what they can, as it will go towards feeding people in need and combatting the climate crisis.
If there are any questions, please contact student leaders at hope.carmona@mhsmi.org or harshitha.arvapalli@mhsmi.org Follow and interact with the Instagram page at @feed.people.not.landfills to see more updates and learn more about our issues and initiatives. There is also a canned food donation collection at the Birmingham YMCA now until December 6.
THANK YOU for helping us to make a difference one meal at a time!
