Uniform Policy

Published on 08/28/2017

Dear Mercy Parents / Guardians:

Please note all students were sent an email reminder in regards to the uniform policy and dress code. You'll find listed below pertinent information and guidelines for your reference.

The student/parent handbook is currently being updated and will be linked on the Mercy web site soon. In the meantime, please reference the 2016-17 handbook here. Note revised policy in regards to black sweaters and previous year's quarter-zips.

Thank you,
Eleasha Tarplin, Dean of Student Affairs

Uniform Policy and Dress Code

Kilts, blouses, polos, and sweaters (cardigan and v-neck) must be purchased from Educational Outfitters. Lightweight fleece half-zip must be purchased from Lands' End.

Kilts should be worn no more than two inches above the knee. Any student who permanently shortens her uniform skirt to an unacceptable length may be required to purchase a new skirt. Full uniform includes wearing your ID/lanyard around your neck at all times while in the building.

Only v-neck or cardigan sweaters purchased from the uniform company, lightweight fleece half-zip purchased from Lands' End or Mercy Varsity letter sweaters may be worn in addition to the uniform blouse or polo and kilt (not in place of the blouse or polo). These additions must comply with the grade's uniform kilt:

  • Class of 2018 - gray kilt; black sweater or half-zip (may wear gray v-neck or gray or white quarter-zip if previously purchased)
  • Class of 2019 - black kilt; black sweater or half-zip
  • Class of 2020 - blue plaid kilt; black sweater or half-zip (may wear maroon v-neck or quarter-zip if previously purchased)
  • Class of 2021 - green plaid kilt; black sweater or half-zip (may wear navy v-neck or quarter-zip if purchased at Used Uniform Sale)
Accessories to the uniform are not allowed. Any garment worn under the uniform blouse may not be visible. A long-sleeve white top may be worn under the uniform blouse. Students must wear solid, without a pattern, black, dark green, gray, maroon, navy or white (no neon or lace) foot/leg wear with their uniforms. The colors may not be combined. Footless tights or leggings may be worn under the uniform skirt, but socks must be worn as well. Shoes must be closed toe and closed heel. (Crocs and closed-toe Birkenstock clogs are acceptable.) The side of the shoe must rest below the ankle. Sweatpants or pajama pants are not to be worn under your uniform skirt during the school day (between 8:00 a.m. and sign-out). Violation of uniform or dress code policies will result in sanctions. The entire Uniform Policy can be found in the Student Handbook, pages 7-8.
