2026 Teacher of the Year Profesora Julia Cilona

At Mercy High School, teaching is more than a profession—it is a ministry. Each day, our faculty and staff live out the mission of Mercy by mentoring, guiding, and supporting students in their academic, spiritual, and personal growth. Their dedication is a powerful reflection of our Mercy Core Values and the heart of our community.

We are proud to announce and celebrate one educator who exemplifies this mission in an extraordinary way. Selected by both students and colleagues, our 2025–2026 Teacher of the Year, Profesora Julia Cilona, has made a profound and lasting impact on the Mercy community.

Known for her rigorous yet compassionate approach to teaching Spanish, Mrs. Cilona creates a classroom environment where students feel truly seen, heard, and valued. Her students describe her classroom as more than just a place to learn—it is a community built on trust, respect, and encouragement. She takes the time to know each student personally, meeting them with empathy and understanding while inspiring them to grow.

Her passion for teaching is evident in the joy and energy she brings to her classroom each day. Students consistently share that her class is the highlight of their day, where learning is both meaningful and engaging. Beyond academics, she instills confidence, encouraging students to believe in themselves and strive to become the best versions of who they are. She has also opened doors to the wider world, giving students unforgettable opportunities to experience language and culture firsthand.

Mrs. Cilona’s impact extends far beyond her classroom walls. Whether cheering on students at games and performances or creating opportunities for them to experience language and culture in authentic ways, she fosters connection, curiosity, and a love of learning that lasts a lifetime.

Students describe her as not only a teacher, but a mentor, role model, and constant source of positivity. Her genuine kindness, unwavering support, and joyful spirit have shaped the lives of countless Mercy girls. As one student beautifully shared, her care and dedication create an environment where students are lifted up, encouraged, and empowered to reach their full potential.

We are deeply grateful for Mrs. Cilona’s commitment to her students and to the Mercy mission. Her work is a true embodiment of compassionate service, principled leadership, and a voice for dignity and respect.

"Mrs. Cilona’s classroom “feels like more than a place to learn. It is a community built on trust, respect, and encouragement.”

“She motivates students to do their best, and because of her, we have grown not only in our Spanish skills, but also in our confidence as learners.”

Congratulations, Mrs. Cilona, and thank you for the incredible impact you make in our community!
