Now, after winning the 2014 Comerica Hatch Detroit Contest presented by the Detroit Lions Wednesday, she will be able to bring her hand-made, seasonal pies and cookies to a larger audience through her bakery Sister Pie.

Defending state champion Mercy High School got an early jump on the competition and the 2014 girls swim season Wednesday morning.
When the clock struck midnight, the Marlins hit the water at the earliest possible moment on the first official day of practice.
The event was meant to build team unity and an esprit de corps among the 60 athletes--more than a third of whom are freshmen.

Mercy High School junior Emma Feeheley was crowned Miss Farmington 2014 during the annual pageant ceremony Wednesday night at the Civic Theater.
Sponsored by Heeney-Sundquist Funeral Home, Feeheley, 16, had little time to enjoy the honor as she is expected to be visible and working during the Farmington Founders Festival, during which she will be seen in the Saturday morning festival parade.

Placed on the inbounder by her coach because of her long arms, Taylor Jones stole the ball with 4.2 seconds left in Sunday’s Catholic League A-B championship game, and swiped a CHSL title for the Farmington Hills Mercy Marlins.

While more and more schools throughout metro Detroit are using iPads in the classroom, Mercy High School in Farmington Hills has been recognized for its innovative adoption of the portable tablet.
The school’s pairing of two courses — speech and a digital art class — shows how the iPad is enhancing both of the traditional subjects at Mercy and giving students technology skills, said associate principal Laurence Baker.

If all goes well for the hometown teams, Farmington and Mercy high schools will meet for the fourth straight year in the final round of a district volleyball tournament next week.
Mercy has won the previous three meetings and will try to win its 11th consecutive district championship in the Class A tournament at Southfield High School.
