Spiritual Life

Mercy Secondary Education has a long and fruitful history with its roots in Ireland, in the ministry of Catherine McAuley. Her mission was that of serving the poor, the sick and those in need of education. In 1831 Catherine established the Congregation of the Sisters of Mercy, at that time Catherine stated the principle aims of the Congregation as "to educate poor girls, to lodge and maintain poor young women who are in danger...and to visit the sick poor." What had begun as a dream has now taken its place globally.

Over the years Mercy Secondary Education has been committed to meeting the educational needs of young women around the world. Here at Mercy High School in Farmington Hills, we proudly continue in this commitment with a dedicated faculty, staff and student body, as we live our Mercy Values:  Human Dignity, Service, Justice, Mercy and Option for the Poor. As we live out these Values, we proclaim the Gospel through our actions.

The Mercy Pastoral Ministry Department is committed to enriching the spiritual life of all the young women of Mercy through our daily prayer, liturgies and prayer services. We also offer a four year retreat program which culminates in the KAIROS retreat in the student’s senior year.

Through our Service Program we strive to live out Catherine’s Mission, “To connect the rich with the poor, the healthy to the sick, the educated and skilled to those who lack, the influential to those forgotten, the powerful to the weak, and through this, do the work of God on Earth”.
