Over 50 students are a part of Mercy’s Pastoral Team and are committed to giving their time before, during and after school to help faith come alive at Mercy. Students from all grades and all backgrounds are invited to be a part of the Pastoral Team. The Pastoral Team has two main focus groups: Worship and Service/Physical Environment.
The Worship Group
The Worship Group meets in the morning and during school to plan and implement the all-school Eucharistic Liturgies, prayer services, prayer groups, and the Reconciliation Services. Students choose which liturgical celebrations they would like to work on and which themes, reading, music, and any rituals that they would like to incorporate. Students are involved in a variety of Liturgical Ministries at Mercy. Students are Ministers of Music with the student directed Spirit Choir, Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharistic, Lectures, and Usher/Greeters. We also have a weekly student lead prayer group called F.O.F. “Faith of Friday” which meets before school each Friday from 7:30 – 8:00 a.m.
The Service/Physical Environment Group
The Service/Physical Environment Pastoral Team members work throughout the year organizing many donation drives which allows us to reach out beyond our Mercy Community. This branch of the Pastoral Team coordinates the collection of health and beauty aides for young mothers in Benton Harbor and Detroit, a Giving Tree at Christmas for the St. Vincent daughters of Charity, as well as other collections throughout the year. They are also responsible for decorating bulletin boards and hanging posters to advertise these gift drives.
We also have sacristans who are responsible for the environment in our chapel which enhance our celebration of the Liturgical Seasons.
