Aging. It happens to all of us. Every 12 months, we grow one year older and that occasion is marked as one’s birthday. Seems simple enough, and yet the perceptions about that annual phenomenon differ, quite dramatically, from one person to the next.

Saints. What comes to mind at the mention of that word? Possibly one considers men or women in long flowing garments, strolling leisurely around heaven or whatever is conjured up as the afterlife. Saints among us. Well, that notion may confound or even confuse us given that we think only of the deceased as having attained sainthood status.

Social conscience: noun; an attitude of sensitivity toward and sense of responsibility regarding injustice and problems in society.*

I choose to believe most people, when asked, would respond that they have one. Something we are born with? No. Something in humanity that we are wired to develop if the right factors are put in place? Yes. Something that matures over time, and age, and experience? Most definitely.
