Notes from Coach Diehl: 7 May 2015 @ Marian

Mercy JV 2  - Marian JV 2

On the hottest day of the season with no breeze and bright sun, both teams played with a short bench BUT not without heart.

Defense again was strong; anchored by Katie, Mary, Sophia, Avery, and Lily (playing hurt but with ALL out effort and determination). Katie was controlling the defense. There were a few key slide tackles to prevent a break-away. Mary played with a great conviction (took ownership on the field), and moved up to help get us the goal we needed.

Notes from Coach Diehl: 2 May 2015 vs. Ladywood

Great Saturday for the Marlins!

On a very warm and sunny day Saturday, we faced a team without their keeper but we also played extremely well. Defense limited their opportunities. Calli notched another shut out with an assist by Lauren, (who played the final 5 minutes as the Marlin’s keeper!) who ALSO scored our first goal on a great shot, assisted by Julie. Lauren also played defense for us since I wanted to move Sophia up to mid; and Claire was unable to play due to hard hit to the head on Thursday. Great team play by Lauren on Saturday!!

Notes from Coach Diehl: 28 April 2015 vs. Regina

Mercy JV 4 – Regina JV 0

On a very nice but windy day the Mercy hosted Regina. Regina always challenges us and comes prepared.  Great coaching staff and friendly rivalry. It was a injury plagued game at the end, with Nicole seeing more action then the keepers. However, Mercy was able to keep the ball in our offensive end much of the game and Heather scored a goal (assist by Grace) the first half to put us in the lead. Then since our keeper had to leave at half time and we moved Heather to keeper. She did fine. Heather and Calli combined for a shutout.

Mercy JV 3 – Regina JV 0

The Mercy Marlins JV arrived first and were greeted by the AD and athletic trainer. Regina is always a nice school to play at, and they have great coaching staff for both teams. The weather was so much nicer than Thursday,  as the temperature was higher and there were NO wind gusts.

Regina has a very good team but our defense kept us down in our offensive end a lot of the game. Katie Coe anchored the defense. Calli earned the shutout. Annah had a great game and netted all three goals!
