Alumnae Raise Their TEA Cup in Support of Mercy
Thank you to the 209 women who attended the 5th Annual Tea for Tuition on Sunday, April 26. The Mercy gymnasium looked like a lovely French tea parlor with tables adorned with eiffel towers, fresh flowers, pretty plates, plenty of tea to sip and food to nibble on. The Mercy Mimes welcomed Alumnae and guests as they arrived for the tea-riffic afternoon. Gorgeous gift baskets, donated by alumnae and friends of Mercy, were up for bid in the silent auction as well as awarded in prize drawings.
President Sr. Regina Marie Doelker, RSM presented the 2009 Distinguished Alumna Award to Diana George Jacokes '67. Diana spoke about her influential years at Mercy, "Here, young women are developed in mind, body, and spirit and the world is a better place for it."
A Mercy student scholarship recipient spoke about her Mercy experience and how tuition assistance touched her life and helped make her Mercy education possible. Alumnae Board President Rebecca Burnett Mathis '92 thanked all of the Tea for Tuition volunteers and asked for support for the Tuition Assistance Program. The Alumnae Board is striving to create an endowed scholarship for Tuition Assistance to ensure that funds are available for deserving Mercy students.
Thanks to the generous support of attendees and AbsenTEA donors the Alumnae Association will be able to award 10 scholarships to deserving Mercy students for the 2009-2010 school year. CLICK HERE to download the event program and listing of loyal gift donors.
